Badders is a proud sponsor of the 11th annual Tamale Festival to be held from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 19. There will be activities for all ages in Old Orchard Park including a special kids’ area, music and dancing, craft and food vendors, a boxing tournament, and cooking and eating contests.
The cooking contest and the tamale vendors attract a big crowd. Prizes will be awarded at 11:30 a.m. for the best tamales in three categories -- pork, chicken and other. Several booths will have tamales for sale while some will provide complete lunches. Other food booths will have additional choices for those who do not want tamales. The tamale-eating contest will follow immediately after the cooking contest. Entry is limited to 20 people. The winner will be whoever can finish a dozen tamales first.
A boxing tournament sanctioned by a youth boxing organization will be going on from noon until 5pm. The Calmeca Mariachi Band will be playing throughout the park from 10 until 1 which is always a crowd pleaser. There will be a Comfort Zone; a large tent with tables and chairs for people to sit, relax and visit.
The main event this year will be the Houston Disc Dogs - with 2 performances the crowd will be pleased as they watch the dogs perform their tricks. Soccer Darts, Rockwall, Bungee Jump and Dunking Booth is just a few of the fun things for kids to do.
There will be close to 40 food vendors with a large variety of food for you to choose from and craft vendors with everything from plants to metal art to jewelry to Tupperware.
We hope you will come out to Old Orchard Park and join us for a day full of Family Fun! Come out and Enjoy Diboll!
